This past weekend, our fraternity got a little bit bigger. April 11th, 2015, the first pledges and charter members of the CNU pre-colony of Gamma Iota were initiated, thanks in large part to the efforts of expansion chair James Doherty and ΓI brother Heather Pendergrass. Before the event, eleven of the soon-to-be CNU brothers met with memebers of the Virginia Tech chapter, as well as Claudia Brodkin, district counselor, for breakfast in Christiansburg. ΓI president Tanner Lawrence then invited the pledges to a tour of the Virginia Tech campus while James set up the event. Within a few short hours and thousands of steps through beautiful, springtime, Blacksburg sunshine, eleven CNU students embarked on a journey with three undergraduate and two graduate pledges from Virginia Tech to become brothers of Alpha Chi Sigma.
This brotherhood never ceases to astound and impress me, from the Atlantic to the Appalachian mountains, from Virginia to the Xi chapter at the University of Maine to Sigma chapter at the University of California, Berkeley... And the amount of dedication on the part of our brothers to invest themselves fully on a beautiful Saturday afternoon to creating an unforgettable experience for people they've never met - the first object of our fraternity in action.
Nevertheless, we're still incredibly excited for this week - a little under 30 pledges are reflecting and preparing themselves for initiation. Stay tuned for news about our own initiated next week!
